TUE, 21 JAN 2025

President John Dramani Mahama has submitted his third batch of ministerial and regional ministerial nominees to Parliament for approval.

Notably, this list comprises entirely male candidates, marking a departure from previous submissions that included female nominees.

The Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the nominations, stating that they reflect President Mahama’s commitment to building a robust and diverse team to address the pressing needs of the country.

In earlier nominations, President Mahama demonstrated a commitment to gender inclusivity.

For instance, the second batch of ministerial appointments included four women out of twelve nominees.

The current list, however, raises discussions regarding gender representation in government appointments.

The nominations include notable MPs and technocrats for critical sectors of governance.

Among them are:
• Foreign Affairs Ministry: Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP.

• Ministry of Defence: Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.

• Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations: Samuel Nartey George, MP.

• Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources: Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP.

• Ministry of Health: Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, MP.

• Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology: Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, MP.

Additionally, Kofi Iddie Adams has been nominated as Minister for Sports and Recreation, while Joseph Bukari Nikpe has been put forward for the Ministry of Transport.

Regional Ministers:
President Mahama also proposed regional ministerial appointments, including Puozuing Charles Lwanga for the Upper West Region, Joseph Addae Akwaboa for Bono Region, and Francis Owusu Antwi for Bono East Region.

The nominees are expected to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee in the coming days for vetting and approval.
