The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has urged political appointees of the former Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration to quickly vacate their positions and return state assets to avoid unnecessary drama and distractions.
In a Facebook post dated January 15, 2025, the lawmaker advised his colleagues to recognize the change in government and comply with protocols without waiting for forceful ejections or public backlash.
“Why even wait to be sacked from office when you know you are a political appointee? We have a party to rebuild and recapture. We don’t need any unnecessary drama. Tune your mind, and let’s get to work,” Adomako-Mensah wrote.
He also emphasized the importance of returning state-owned properties, particularly official vehicles, as per a directive issued by former President Akufo-Addo before leaving office.
“Before he left, he instructed that all assets in your possession, including official cars, should be handed over before January 3, 2025. These cars are for official duties only. You are no longer on official duties. Why keep the car?” he questioned.
The MP warned that failure to adhere to these instructions could harm the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) restructuring efforts and tarnish the legacy of the previous administration.
Prior to leaving office, Akufo-Addo issued a directive to outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, and other political appointees, instructing them to return all government vehicles and properties by January 3, 2025. This measure aimed to ensure a smooth transition and maintain accountability.
