Parliament’s Appointments Committee is scheduled to sit today, January 20, 2025, to vet three key ministerial nominees for Roads and Highways, Education, and Food and Agriculture.
The session, expected to commence at 8:30 am, will scrutinize Kwame Governs Agbodza (nominated for Roads and Highways), Haruna Iddrisu (Education), and Eric Opoku (Food and Agriculture) to evaluate their readiness to manage these vital sectors.
This marks the committee's second sitting, led by Bernard Ahiafor as chairperson and Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as vice-chairperson.
The vetting process is anticipated to delve deeply into the nominees' qualifications, vision, and proposed strategies for addressing sectoral challenges.
Ahead of the session, Franklin Cudjoe, a policy analyst, expressed optimism about the rigorousness of the vetting process.
In a social media post yesterday, he emphasized the importance of holding nominees accountable for their objectives and performance metrics.
He wrote, “Tomorrow, we should be thrilled by the experience and maturity in responses from the nominees for Agriculture, Roads and Transport, and Education at the confirmation hearings.
“Hopefully, the questions will reflect what IMANI fellow Mr. Ato Coleman describes as ‘screening methodologies beyond political links.’ We need a more robust performance management system that transparently shows the objectives, outputs, and outcomes that our ministers and their teams are delivering.”
