Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to President John Dramani Mahama, has justified the President’s use of a private jet owned by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, for official trips to Senegal and The Gambia.

Addressing public concerns, Kwakye Ofosu explained that the private jet has been accessible to President Mahama since before the 2024 general elections. He emphasized that the arrangement does not place any financial burden on the state, as the jet is provided free of charge.

He also assured Ghanaians that President Mahama is committed to managing public funds responsibly and remains mindful of the nation’s economic challenges.

Kwakye Ofosu further clarified that the official presidential jet is currently undergoing a review by the Communications Squadron of the Air Force, which oversees its operations. He stated that the use of the private jet is a temporary measure and that the President will resume using the official aircraft once the review is completed.

“The most critical point is that this alternative arrangement has not in any way, shape, or form cost the Ghanaian taxpayer a dime. President Mahama is mindful of the precarious economic situation and is committed to utilising public funds prudently.

“The president is focused on ensuring the best outcomes for Ghana, especially during these economically challenging times,” Kwakye Ofosu said in an interview with TV3.
