A social club group known as Biyalsis Gurutaaba, based in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, has made a generous donation to the Pediatric Unit of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.

The donation included medicines worth GHS 10,000 and an additional GHS 10,000 in cash to support a fund established by the unit to assist needy children whose parents cannot afford medical care.

Presenting the items and cash, the club’s president, Mr. John Asana, explained that the initiative was inspired by the appeal of a group member working at the facility. He highlighted the dire situation of some children at the hospital, noting that many parents struggle to pay medical bills, often resulting in children being taken home without receiving adequate care.

Mr. Asana shared that the group, which comprises professionals such as medical doctors, academics, and lawyers, has a strong track record of humanitarian work. Last year, they organized a medical outreach program in Namoo in the Bongo District, where they donated medicines worth thousands of Ghana cedis to a health facility in the area.

He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian efforts in the region and beyond, urging other groups to follow suit. “The government alone cannot address all developmental challenges,” he emphasized.

Hospital Management Expresses Gratitude

Dr. Cullian Bogee, the Regional Newborn Focal Person, received the donation on behalf of the hospital’s management. She expressed profound gratitude to Biyalsis Gurutaaba, stating that the donation came at a critical time when the facility was grappling with shortages of consumables and instances where parents were unable to settle medical bills.

Dr. Bogee explained that the fund established by the Pediatric Unit aims to assist parents in such situations and called on the public to emulate the example set by Biyalsis Gurutaaba by contributing to the fund.

She also highlighted some of the facility's pressing challenges, including limited space for neonatal care and the admission of babies from neighboring regions. Dr. Bogee appealed to the government and development partners to support the expansion of the Pediatric Unit and deploy more specialized nurses and doctors to address the hospital’s growing needs.

The donation from Biyalsis Gurutaaba underscores the critical role of community support in addressing healthcare challenges and improving the lives of vulnerable children in the region.
