The Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed that the group of people who invaded the premises of its New Corporate Head Office was led by the Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Alleged party supporters of the NDC reportedly invaded the Old Head Office of the Commission on Friday, January 17, and destroyed the property of the Commission including furniture and louvre blades.

Some of the supporters also invaded the premises of the New Corporate Head Office of the Commission on motor bicycles when the EC attempted to complete the collation of results for the parliamentary election in Ablekuma North.

This instilled fear in the EC staff and caused all staff members to flee because the environment had become unsafe as a result of the invasion.

Narrating what happened in a press release, the EC said “The supporters were led by the Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Our staff also identified two men in military uniform without names in the company of the supporters.”

In the release signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chair in charge of Operations, the commission called on the Ghana Police Service to move quickly to arrest the perpetrators of the invasion.

“We call on the Police to swiftly bring the perpetrators to book by identifying, arresting and prosecuting them. Video footages are available showing the faces of the perpetrators of these heinous acts,” the EC said.

Meanwhile, the Commission has assured that it is working round the clock to ensure that the people of Ablekuma North have their Member of Parliament.
