Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has commended President John Mahama’s ministerial appointments.

He describes them as a clear indication of the President’s determination to deliver effectively and efficiently.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Dr. Asah-Asante remarked, “I think that the President is ready to do business, and looking at so many perspectives, you can understand that he has hit the ground running.”

The political analyst’s comments follow the release of a list of ministerial nominees by President Mahama.

These appointments covered key sectors such as Finance, Energy, Justice and Attorney General, Education, Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Gender, Children and Social Protection, Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, and Youth Development and Empowerment.

Dr. Asah-Asante highlighted the calibre of the nominees, noting that their academic and professional experience makes them well-suited for their respective roles.

He emphasized that effective governance does not require a political background but rather the qualifications and competence to manage public office.

“The calibre of people he wants to nominate for these positions, that is, from the point of view of those individuals, they are people with experience, both academic and professional, bringing them onto this type of business,” he stated.

He also praised the president’s efforts to achieve gender balance in his appointments, referencing compliance with constitutional requirements.

“In terms of constitutional and other requirements, you can see this appointment having a manifestation in that regard. Let’s look at the issue of gender. You can see gender featuring as part of the requirements from our rules and regulations regarding ministerial appointments,” he explained.

Dr. Asah-Asante expressed optimism about President Mahama’s commitment to increasing women’s representation in government, highlighting his goal of achieving 30% female political appointments.

“I have no doubt in my mind that he can go beyond the 30% with the way he has started," he noted.

Sycophancy on the part of Asa Asante.,This man has always been playing the devil advocate since President Akuffo Addo came to power. His hatred for the Npp is so glaring that nobody takes him seriously whatever he says. No wonder he's here praising Mahama's. Is tot tot appointment a sign of serious business? Shameful

Should the Free SHS policy be reviewed?
