ORAL is illegal, has no authority — Kabila

ORAL is illegal, has no authority —Kabila

Dr. James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila has questioned the legality of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, which comprises figures such as retired COP Kofi Boakye and North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

ORAL, a task force under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, has been mandated to investigate alleged corruption and recover assets reportedly looted under the Akufo-Addo government.

The team has recently been active in identifying alleged cases of state land captures and corruption involving certain appointees.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Dr. Bomfeh raised concerns about the constitutional and legal basis for its operations.

“What authority do they have? Whoever they are, what is their authority? Is this a Commission of Inquiry?

“What law binds them? And if it is a Committee set up by the President, what Executive Instrument are they working under?” Kabila questioned.

The former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) also pointed out ORAL's ability to enforce its mandate, asking, “Do they even have the power to invite anybody? Do they have the power to move about and make these allegations?”

Kabila expressed concern over the reputational damage caused by ORAL's allegations, particularly if those claims are later proven false.

“How are people going to repair the damage when it is proven that the allegations are untrue?” he asked.
