Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwasi Nyantakyi has expressed his disappointment with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the continuation of his court case, despite his initial expectations that it would be dismissed.
In an interview with Hot FM, Nyantakyi, who was embroiled in a high-profile scandal following Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s #Number12 exposé, revealed that he had hoped the NPP would intervene in his legal troubles.
He said, “Even during my prime time to contest the seat, it was an issue within the party. I thought that if I contested, they [NPP] would have canceled the court case.”
Nyantakyi’s charges stemmed from accusations of fraud and corruption, with Anas’s investigative documentary exposing his alleged involvement in football bribery.
Despite these legal challenges, Nyantakyi insisted, “I haven’t spent any government money, I haven’t killed anybody, but I’m still in court,” signaling his frustration with the prolonged legal proceedings.
The former Confederation of African Football (CAF) Vice President’s political ambitions were further hindered when he attempted to contest the Ejisu parliamentary seat but failed to secure the party’s nomination.
His legal battles, compounded by the failed bid for parliamentary office, have left him feeling betrayed by the party he once helped lead to electoral victory.
