Authorities have swiftly responded to recent clashes in Nkwanta, believed to have been triggered by a longstanding Chieftaincy dispute.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Director of Communications at the Presidency, confirmed in a social media post on Friday, January 17, that a combined team of Police and Military personnel had been deployed to the area to restore order.

The deployment follows reports that three people have died, and several others have sustained injuries following a renewed conflict.

Residents are gripped with fear after violent clashes erupted on Wednesday, January 16, and extended into Thursday night.

The dispute has been simmering for some time, involving disagreements over the rightful leader of the Nkwanta traditional area.

Kwakye Ofosu stated in his post, “On the Nkwanta clashes, believed to stem from a Chieftaincy dispute, a combined team of Police and Military personnel were quickly deployed to restore calm.”

He further assured the public of additional reinforcements, adding, “Additional troops being sent today to enforce law and order.”
