Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has questioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their opposition to the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.
The MP highlighted that several government initiatives, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) program and Operation Galamstop, were implemented without statutory backing.
In an interview with Accra-based Metro TV on Thursday, January 16, Dafeamekpor remarked, “So it is not every government program that will be backed by statute.”
“If we speak about ORAL not being backed by any law and constitution, I don’t see the point,” he added.
The NPP has expressed concerns about the legitimacy of the ORAL committee, arguing that it lacks constitutional backing and may be politically motivated.
They contend that constitutionally established bodies, such as the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the Office of the Special Prosecutor are already equipped to handle investigations into alleged corruption.
