A violent incident in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region has left a 43-year-old woman hospitalised with gunshot injuries and two houses burnt to ashes.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night at Tuobodom, a community in the Municipal capital, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about escalating tensions in the area.

Mrs. Naomi Foligah, the injured woman, who is currently receiving treatment at the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, recounted the harrowing experience to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

She described how she and her children were in their room, when some unknown people began firing into their home without provocation.

As she attempted to protect her children, she was shot below her breast and rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment.

Meanwhile, the violence resulted in significant property damage, with two houses set ablaze, displacing several families in the area.

Security personnel, including Police and firefighters struggled to contain the flames, which destroyed the structures and deepened the community’s distress.

The Nkwanta Divisional Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident and urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate the situation.

The area had been under curfew for ethnic disturbances that had claimed lives, and many properties destroyed some years ago.
