Mpasatia: Two dead as galamsey pit collapses

Two illegal miners have died in a mining pit collapse at Mpasati in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 15, 2025, around 2:00 pm.

The two were on their routine galamsey expedition on Tuesday afternoon when the galamsey pit which had developed some cracks accidentally caved in on Kyokose, 38, and his friend yet to be identified.

According to a report gathered by this reporter, some of the illegal miners managed to escape unhurt.

Unfortunately, one of the deceased identified as Kyokose died on the spot, leaving his counterpart in critical condition but was later pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at the Toase clinic.

The two victims, who are yet to be identified because they're not natives of the area, have been deposited at the morgue.
