Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, has called on newly appointed ministers in President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to view their roles as opportunities to serve the nation rather than avenues to amass wealth.
In a social media post on Thursday, January 16, Sulemana Braimah, whose outfit runs the accountability journalism project—The Fourth Estate, promised to support those willing to serve and expose those who will be stealing.
“Congratulations to all incoming ministers and appointees. It’s my hope that you will see your appointment as an honour & opportunity to serve the people rather than to steal and loot. To those who mean well, we shall support you. To those who will steal, we shall expose you,” reads his post.
This statement follows President Mahama’s recent ministerial appointments.
On January 9, 2025, the President nominated Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister for Finance, John Abdulai Jinapor as Minister for Energy, and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
These nominations have been submitted to Parliament and vetted in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution.
Additionally, on January 16, 2025, President Mahama nominated nine cabinet ministers and three regional ministers, including Haruna Iddrisu as Minister for Education, Governs Kwame Agbodza as Minister for Roads and Highways, and Eric Opoku as Minister for Food and Agriculture. These appointments are also pending parliamentary approval.
The appointments are part of President Mahama’s efforts to assemble a competent team to drive his administration’s agenda for economic recovery and stability.
The new government has inherited an economy emerging from its worst crisis in a generation, and the President has pledged to prioritize boosting the economy and creating jobs.
