Prof. Ransford Gyampo, a Political Scientist and Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana has urged members of the Minority in Parliament to respect committee chairs or step aside if they are dissatisfied with the leadership during ministerial nominees vetting.
In an interview with 3News, Prof. Gyampo addressed frustrations raised by the Minority regarding their inability to effectively scrutinize the President’s ministerial nominees.
He emphasized that the chairperson holds the ultimate authority in committee proceedings, and any perceived interference could hinder the process.
“If you don’t allow me to control the process, then everything you say will be interpreted as you gagging me,” Gyampo stated, adding that “the Minority’s frustrations often stem from feeling marginalized during such processes.”
He called for a balanced approach to parliamentary works, noting that while the Majority wields significant power, it does not mean the Minority should dominate.
“The majority has overwhelming power, but that doesn’t mean the minority should dominate,” Gyampo explained.
Prof. Gyampo further stressed the importance of respecting the committee chairperson’s leadership, pointing out that disagreements with the chair’s role should lead to voluntary withdrawal rather than disruptive actions.
On another note, Prof. Gyampo criticized Dr. Gideon Boako, a first-time MP, for his swift public criticisms.
“You can’t rush into politics just to gain popularity,” he remarked.
Reflecting on past political conduct, Prof. Gyampo also highlighted how certain politics annoyed Ghanaians, urging political actors to adopt methods that resonate with the voters.
“If you knew how to do it, you would have acquitted yourself in a manner that would have resonated with Ghanaians,” he concluded.
The comments come amidst heightened tensions over the Minority’s role in scrutinizing President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial nominees.

What is the role of Mr. Ransford Gyampo here ? He is restlessly hitting harder now to create visibility and awareness for his share of the appointment. Could somebody alert Mr. President for me, before he starts bashing at his administration too ?
