The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all Regional Chairmen to set up Regional Vetting Committees to facilitate the vetting and selection process for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDEs).
In a letter from the NDC to all Regional Chairmen dated January 13, it said, “In accordance with the Presidential directive concerning the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDEs), you are hereby instructed to establish Regional Vetting Committees in your respective regions to oversee and facilitate the vetting and selection process for MMDCE candidates within the various districts across the country.”
Regional Vetting Committees according to the letter signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey should be made up of the Regional Chairman, the Regional Secretary, the Regional Organizer, a representative of the council of elders, a representative of former appointees, a representative from the women's wing, a representative from the parliamentary caucus, and two Constituency Executives (who are not applicants for the MMDCE position).
The letter stressed that all applicants for the MMDCE position must provide verifiable proof of membership in the NDC, have competency, and meet the eligibility criteria for Members of Parliament as stipulated in Article 94(3)(c) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
