Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, has commended the appointment of Mahama Ayariga as the new Majority Leader of Ghana's 9th Parliament.
In a social media post on Thursday, January 16, 2025, Mogtari described Ayariga, the Bawku Central Member of Parliament (MP), as an excellent pick for both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the government.
“Hon. Mahama Ayariga is sharp and has strong analytical and solid oratory skills. He will undoubtedly be a great Majority Leader. Congratulations, my brother. Godspeed,” she wrote.
Ayariga succeeds Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who has been nominated as the Minister of Finance-designate by President Mahama.
This leadership shift is part of broader changes within the NDC. Ato Forson took over as Minority Leader in January 2023 from Haruna Iddrisu as part of the party's restructuring efforts aimed at strengthening its front ahead of the 2024 elections.
