Former Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo has addressed criticisms directed at the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, suggesting that such attacks may stem from individuals’ fears of exposure.
Speaking on Accra-based Joy News’ Upfront on Wednesday, January 15, Domelevo remarked, “The best form of defence is an attack. Anybody who thinks this may lead to them being exposed will definitely attack.”
The ORAL Committee, established to recover state assets, has faced scrutiny from various quarters.
Critics, including members of the Minority in Parliament, have questioned the committee’s legality and the timing of its formation.
Suame MP John Darko contended that President Mahama lacked the legal authority to form the committee at the time, as he was merely the president-elect and not yet in office.
In response, Domelevo, who is a member of the committee emphasized that the committee operates transparently and within legal boundaries.
He clarified that the ORAL team does not summon individuals but relies on information voluntarily submitted by the public.
“We are not even inviting anybody,” he stated. “The publication went out from the office of the then president-elect, saying that if you have information, bring it to us via the provided hotlines, website, or email.”
