ORAL violates Ghana’s constitutional framework — NPP MP

John Darko, Member of Parliament for Suame ConstituencyJohn Darko, Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency

John Darko, Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, has criticized the establishment of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), asserting that it contravenes Ghana’s constitutional framework.

At a press conference on Wednesday, January 15, Darko expressed concerns over the committee’s formation and its potential impact on constitutionally established bodies.

He stated, “We believe that the establishment of that committee violates and flies in the face of our Constitution.”

Darko emphasized that the committee’s actions could undermine the work of institutions like the police and the Special Prosecutor.

He remarked, “This is now putting the work of the police and special prosecutor and constitutionally established bodies out of business.”

In support of the alleged unconstitutionality, the Minority in Parliament has advised former government officials to boycott any invitations from the ORAL team.

They argue that constitutionally established bodies are already empowered to investigate alleged misconduct and that ORAL’s actions could undermine the rule of law.

“We are not going to be part of it because we believe that the constitutionally established bodies that can investigate any so-called misdeeds of the government, what are they doing?” Darko questioned.

The ORAL committee, chaired by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was formed to investigate and prosecute former government officials accused of corruption.

Why is the NPP scared about the ORAL team if they haven't embezzled or stolen government property? MP John Darko, do you know what the violation of Ghana's constitutional framework is? That was exactly what Jean Mensa did by canceling already declared poll results in favor of the NPP, yet no one heard your voice. No NDC politician will sleep peacefully on his bed if the new government fails to prosecute the politicians who have embezzled Ghana's funds and properties. Ghanaians voted for Maham...
