Dr. Tiah Kabiru Mahama, the newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Walewale, has shared his assessment of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate.
Speaking on Joy News' AM Show, Dr. Kabiru expressed optimism about Dr. Ato Forson’s capacity to manage the Finance Ministry effectively, despite highlighting some concerns about his responses during the vetting process.
"My fair and candid assessment is that he was evasive in the law of response, and I can give you a litany of examples,” Dr. Kabiru noted, referring to Dr. Ato Forson's performance during his parliamentary vetting on January 13, 2025.
While acknowledging Dr. Ato Forson’s knowledge and experience in the finance sector, Dr. Kabiru criticized his lack of precision on what he described as "minuscule and petty issues," including questions about the School Feeding Programme and the Central Bank.
Despite these criticisms, the Walewale MP expressed confidence in the nominee’s overall qualifications.
"I don’t think Mr. Ato Forson will do badly as Minister of Finance. I don’t think so," Dr. Kabiru remarked, adding that “the Ghanaian people should assess Dr. Ato Forson’s performance based on how he addresses critical issues.”
Dr. Kabiru also shared his impressions of Energy Minister-designate Mr. Abdullai Jinapor, commending him as a “solid guy” with deep industry knowledge.
“Jinapor understands his industry; he has it at his fingertips... His performance was generally okay,” Dr. Kabiru said.
