Vice President of the Republic, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering the youth, promoting sustainable development, and ensuring social inclusion as key pillars of national progress.

Delivering the keynote address at the 76th Annual New Year School and Conference at the University of Ghana, Legon, she outlined the government’s agenda to achieve these goals through strategic investments and partnerships.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that the government would continue to prioritize youth capacity building through innovative projects to equip young people with the necessary skills to thrive in a competitive economy.

“It is crucial that we continue to invest in the capacity-building abilities of our youth through innovative projects,” she said.

She cited the Digital Youth Hub Project as one such initiative that focuses on digital and entrepreneurial skills, which are vital for the country’s economic resilience.

The Vice President also highlighted the importance of social inclusion and protecting the environment to ensure no one is left behind in the country’s developmental agenda.

“Focusing on people is essential to ensure social inclusion, gender equity, and human rights. People-centered initiatives ensure that when we say no one is left behind, it is not just a cliché,” she stressed.

Touching on the sustainable development goals (SDGs), she reiterated the government’s commitment to the five pillars—People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships—stating that addressing these areas is essential for national resilience.

She further called for collective efforts in addressing illegal mining and environmental degradation, describing the protection of natural resources as crucial for future generations.

“We must all be committed to the task of sustaining our planet for generations to come,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated.
