President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace to Bawku, a community grappling with years of conflict.
Speaking during his visit to Bawku and Nalerigu on Tuesday, January 14, Mahama emphasized that peace in the area remains a top priority of his administration.
In his remarks, the President recalled his campaign promise, stating, “During the campaign, I stated that if God granted our desire, bringing peace to Bawku would be one of my number one priorities.”
He further explained that his first visit outside Accra, one week after his swearing-in at the Black Stars Square, was to Bawku to demonstrate his resolve to address the ongoing crisis.
Mahama assured the people of Bawku that efforts to restore peace have already begun.
“This visit is my first major assignment outside Accra. I decided to come and assure you that I am here to work hard to bring peace back to Bawku,” he said.
The President acknowledged the hardships faced by residents over the past three years, noting the dire situation they have endured.
“For the last three years, you have not been able to sleep in peace,” Mahama remarked, promising that his administration would restore the security and stability needed for people to go about their lives without fear.
