President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of Bawku and its environs that he is committed to bringing lasting peace to the area.
According to him, his government will do everything to deal with the issues at hand to end the conflict.
Addressing the people of Bawku during a visit on Tuesday, January 14, President John Dramani Mahama indicated that bringing peace to Bawku is a major priority for him.
“During the campaign, I stated that if God granted our desire and I was elected president, bringing peace to Bawku was going to be one of my number one priorities. Today marks exactly one week since my swearing-in, and my first major assignment outside Accra is to assure you that we are working diligently to bring peace back to Bawku," the President said.
President Mahama continued, “I want to assure you that I am fully apprised of the issues, and I am committed to dealing with them. Trust in myself and this administration, and by the grace of God, peace will be restored permanently to Bawku.”
The President in his address indicated that once Ministers are appointed for the Interior and Defence they will be charged to make Bawku one of their top priorities.
“We are putting in place the various appointments so that we can have ministers and other officials responsible for security to take charge. Within this week, we will appoint the Minister of Defense, Minister of Interior, National Security Advisor, National Security Coordinator, BNI Director, and others. Once these appointments are made, I will charge them to make Bawku one of their top priorities,” President Mahama added.
