Ghanaian musician and Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has alleged that a former minister from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government played a role in the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, January 14, A Plus disclosed that he had provided this information to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) during an invitation last year.

He claimed the minister allegedly contracted the assailants to carry out the murder.

“Last year, I was invited to the CID headquarters to provide information regarding the murder of Ahmed Suale. During the meeting, I identified a high-profile minister from the previous government who was allegedly involved in contracting assailants to carry out the crime,” A Plus stated.

He further revealed that he disclosed his source to the CID in the presence of the department’s director. According to him, the source was “a highly credible one.”

Expressing frustration over the lack of updates on the case, the MP issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the CID to provide an update on the status of the investigation or face the consequences.

“It is critical that the CID director updates the public on the progress of the investigation. At this point, it appears the matter has been sidelined. If no update is provided within 48 hours, I will invoke my authority as a Member of Parliament to formally summon the Ghana Police Service to brief Parliament on this case,” he warned.

A Plus also threatened to publicly release the information he provided to the CID if the police fail to respond within the given timeframe.

“Should that fail, I will utilize my Facebook and other social media platforms to update the nation on what I know about the matter, which shall include the name of the alleged perpetrator,” he stated.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a member of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye P.I. team, was shot dead on January 16, 2019, by unidentified gunmen in Accra.

His murder followed the release of an undercover documentary exposing corruption in Ghana football, which led to the resignation of former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

In 2024, the CID invited A Plus to assist with investigations after he publicly claimed to have vital information on the case.
