The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has applauded President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling the promise to uncap the NHIA budget approved by Parliament annually.
The President on Sunday, January 12, announced his government’s plan to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy to increase its funding and expand access to healthcare nationwide.
He was speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.
In a press release welcoming the news, the NHIA said the government has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to strengthening Ghana's healthcare system and ensuring sustainable funding for the NHIS.
The Authority described the move as a bold one, explaining that uncapping the NHIA budget will make room for the coverage to expand while ensuring prompt settlement of claims.
“This bold move will significantly impact the Scheme's growth and aspiration to attain Universal Health Coverage. It will enable the NHIA to expand coverage, settle claims promptly, improve service delivery, and ensure that every Ghanaian has access to quality and affordable healthcare regardless of socio-economic status,” the NHIA said in its release.
The Authority has assured of its readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to maximise the benefits of this critical intervention for the collective good of the nation.
