NPP Focus on 2024 loss, not party positions — NPP Council of Elders to members
TUE, 14 JAN 2025

The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged members to halt all internal campaign activities and focus on rebuilding the party following its disappointing defeat in the 2024 elections.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Council, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, the elders expressed concern over ongoing campaigns for various party positions, describing them as premature and detrimental to the party’s efforts to bounce back.

“The elders of the Party are deeply concerned about this development and wish to appeal to all our members and sympathizers to refrain from such activities which do not help our effort to rebuild and energize the party following our 2024 disappointing electoral defeats,” the statement read in part.

The Council reminded party members that the current priority is to conduct a thorough assessment of the causes of the NPP’s humiliating defeat in the recent polls.

As part of this process, an Election Review Committee chaired by Professor Mike Oquaye has been established to investigate the party’s performance and propose recommendations for the future.

The statement further urged members to avoid distractions from internal competitions and instead focus on reflecting on the party’s electoral loss.

“Fellow members of NPP, this is the time for us to soberly reflect on what happened to us in 2024,” the Council stressed.

The elders assured members that the time for internal contests will come, but for now, rebuilding the party should take precedence.

“Time for internal competitions shall certainly come to pass. For the moment, it is critical for us to rebuild and energize our party,” the statement added.
