Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated the party’s call for a forensic audit of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC).

In a social media post on Saturday, January 11, 2025, Dr. Boamah emphasized that such an audit is “as relevant today as it was before the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.”

He highlighted several concerns, including unauthorized voter transfers, deleted names from the voters’ register, and the theft of Biometric Voter Registration equipment from the EC’s headquarters.

Dr. Omane Boamah stated, “We must get to the bottom of the cause(s) of the illegal transfers, deleted names on the voters register among others.” He also questioned how such equipment could be stolen under “CCTV surveillance with 24-hour military and police protection.”

The NDC’s call for a forensic audit is not new. In September 2024, the party petitioned the EC, citing “alarming irregularities, discrepancies and unauthorized manipulations” in the provisional voters’ register.

The EC, however, described the call as “misguided” and “premature,” stating that the public exhibition of the provisional voters’ register was intended to identify and correct such errors.

Despite the EC’s stance, the NDC organized nationwide protests in September 2024, demanding an independent forensic audit. Tens of thousands of supporters marched in Accra and other regions, urging both international and local bodies to intervene.

It would be great if parliament passed that as law, but I think that after the exit of Akufo Addo as president, Ghanaians will not be worried about any dictator in the future who would threaten our democracy by telling the EC what to do. Jean Mensa fully submitted to the commands of the ex-leader. I don't know what Ghanaians have to do with such a person.
