Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has embarked on a spiritual journey to Mecca to offer gratitude to Allah following his defeat in the recent presidential election.
In a post shared on social media on Friday, January 10, 2025, Bawumia, alongside his wife Hajia Samira Bawumia and other close associates, revealed that they had arrived in Mecca to perform Umrah, the Islamic pilgrimage.
“Together with Hajia Samira Bawumia and some friends, I arrived in Mecca yesterday to perform Umrah (Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca). This is to thank the Almighty Allah for His grace. We also prayed for guidance and protection for us and for our nation, Ghana,” Bawumia wrote.
Among those accompanying the fgormer Vice President were former Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, and former Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adams, who also joined the pilgrimage as part of the delegation.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has released the updated official results of the 2024 presidential elections, showing a significant victory for President John Dramani Mahama.
According to the EC’s updated results, Mahama led Bawumia by a margin of over 1.7 million votes, securing 6,591,790 votes (56.42%) to Bawumia’s 4,877,611 votes (41.75%).
The results from 275 out of 276 constituencies confirmed Mahama’s overwhelming lead, making it mathematically impossible for Bawumia to overturn the outcome, even with the remaining votes from Ablekuma North.
