Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central has said he now understands why Members of Parliament (MPs) always advocate for the use of sirens.
Speaking on Joy FM, A Plus revealed how his early days in office have changed his perspective on the challenges MPs face in balancing their duties and managing time.
“Today, for instance, I was with the President in my constituency, where the Ahmadiyya Muslim community held their annual convention at Gomoa Pomadze. At the same time, I had to be in Parliament. It was overwhelming,” he explained.
Recalling his earlier stance against demand by MPs to use sirens, A Plus admitted he now sides with them.
“Before I entered Parliament, I criticized MPs for wanting sirens. But today, I had to call my friend, a dispatch rider, to help me beat traffic. It’s not easy at all. Imagine an MP with a constituency as far as Paga having to attend events there and return to Parliament the same day. I now get it,” he said.
A Plus highlighted the difficulties of juggling constituency and parliamentary duties, noting that his experience has given him a better understanding of the pressures MPs face.
“I think I’m in a better position now to explain to the public what parliamentarians go through,” he added.
A Plus was elected as an independent candidate in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
