Immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for prioritising competence and integrity in his ministerial nominations.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ Upfront on January 9, 2025, Mr. Appiah-Kubi commended the President for carefully selecting individuals with solid professional backgrounds to serve in key government positions.

“I’m very happy that the President has carefully selected his ministers so far. And I want to commend him for prioritising competence, integrity, and knowledge. I’m highly impressed with the list so far,” he remarked.

President Mahama on Thursday, January 9, announced his first set of ministerial nominations, including Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister designate, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor as Energy Minister designate, and Hon. Dominic Akuritinga Ayini as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice designate.

The nominees, all with extensive experience in their respective fields, have been described by many as individuals capable of steering Ghana towards economic recovery and progress.

Sharing his thoughts on the appointments, Appiah-Kubi expressed satisfaction with the President’s approach, describing it as a model that future leaders should emulate.

“President Mahama has been very careful with his selection. He has put merit ahead of any consideration, and this is what we expect every president to do,” he said.

Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the nominee for Finance Minister, is a renowned economist with a PhD in Finance from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and extensive experience in public finance and macroeconomic policy.

Energy Minister designate, John Jinapor, holds several advanced degrees in economic policy, marketing, and energy economics and has promised to reform Ghana’s energy sector if approved by Parliament.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice designate, Dominic Akuritinga Ayini, also comes with a wealth of experience in law and public service, having served in various capacities under previous administrations.
