Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has expressed strong disapproval of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial appointments, emphasizing that the government must demonstrate full preparedness from the outset.

Speaking after the Speaker of Parliament announced only three ministerial nominees—the designated Finance Minister, Energy Minister, and Attorney General/Minister of Justice—Afenyo-Markin criticized the limited appointments as inadequate and indicative of a lack of readiness on the part of the administration.

He described the process as “tot-tot” and “self-table," questioning whether the government was prepared to deliver on its promises.

“Mr Speaker this ‘tot-tot-tot-tot’ appointment s is unacceptable. Mr Speaker this is a government that promised a 24-hour economy in opposition. They told us they were ready for government,” he said.

The Minority Leader reminded the House of the administration’s campaign pledge to implement a 24-hour economy, noting that the public expects the government to be ready to govern effectively from day one.

He expressed doubts about the ability of the government to manage critical sectors such as energy, finance, and justice with only a partial cabinet in place.

Afenyo-Markin stressed the urgency of appointing a full slate of ministers to oversee the country’s affairs efficiently. He urged the government to expedite the appointment of leaders for other key ministries, including Lands and Natural Resources, to ensure that Ghana’s development needs are addressed without delay.
