Teacher Before Court For Causing Student's Death

A Cape CoasT Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Justice Asiedu, has remanded a teacher of the Abaka Zion Junior Secondary School, near Edumfa, in prison custody for allegedly causing the death of a Form Three student of the Oguaa Secondary/Technical School.

The accused, Paul Akwaboah, is alleged to have given a concoction to the student, Miss Gifty Etrue, to terminate a pregnancy, resulting in her death. He is to reappear on June 1, this year.

According to a police source, on April 30, this year, the accused, who was the boyfriend of the deceased, gave her the concoction to terminate the pregnancy.

The source said on May 3, 2007, the deceased developed complications and was admitted to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital where she died on the May 14.

It said on the same day, the suspect and his uncle, known as Francis, also a resident of Abaka, managed to fake a medical report which indicated that the girl had died from Cerebrospinal Meningitis.

The source said that the deceased's father, Mr Etrue, reported the matter to the police and the suspect was subsequently arrested.
