Bawku: Heavy security at Daduri Park as Samanpiid Festival begins today

A heavy security presence has been observed at Daduri Park in Bawku as preparations for the Samanpiid Festival are underway.

The heightened security is believed to be linked to ongoing chieftaincy issues in the area.

Ahead of the festival, the Kusaasis unveiled a historic statue in honor of their esteemed overlord, Naba Abugurago Asigiri Azoko II. The monument, located at the ‘Bawku Highways’—a central point in the Kusaug territory—commemorates the chief's remarkable forty-year reign as the paramount ruler of Kusaug.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Solomon Awini, chairman of the Samanpiid committee, described the statue as a significant milestone.

He emphasized the community's commitment to safeguarding the monument against "envious and evil people," ensuring its preservation for generations to come.

The unveiling drew hundreds of natives and visitors, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Cultural dances representing various parts of the Kusaug territory were performed at the chief's palace, adding a festive spirit to the occasion.

As preparations continue, the Samanpiid Festival promises to celebrate the rich heritage of the Kusaasis while navigating the challenges of maintaining peace and unity in the region.
