The Christmas season came alive in Kabusa Village, Abuja, as the Nery Developmental Initiative (NDI), in collaboration with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR), carried out a Christmas charity outreach at the Palace of the District Head. The event reached a significant number of elderly men and women, providing food, household essentials, and a message of hope and goodwill.

The outreach, a hallmark of NDI’s commitment to community service, focused on supporting the most vulnerable members of the Kabusa community. With the crucial support from OHCHR, NDI was able to extend its reach and impact, ensuring that the aged population was cared for during the festive season.

The NDI team included its founder and Executive Director, Ambassador Chika Rita Ezenwa; Miss ECO Nigeria 2024, Queen Vivian Onuigbo; and representatives from the Ambulance Academy, who were on standby to ensure the safety of all participants. The team was warmly received by Mr. Ezekiel Bitrus, the palace secretary, on behalf of the District Head.

In her remarks, Amb. Ezenwa highlighted the essence of the outreach and the significance of collaborating with international bodies like the United Nations. “Christmas is a season of love and giving, and at Nery Developmental Initiative, we believe in sharing this spirit with those who need it most. Today, with the invaluable support of the United Nations, we have reached many elders in Kabusa Village, providing not just essentials but a message of hope. We are deeply grateful to our partners for enabling us to make this possible,” she said.

Miss ECO Nigeria, Queen Vivian Onuigbo, spoke on the importance of compassion and unity during the festive period. “The smiles we saw today reflect the power of collective action. It is inspiring to see what can be achieved when we all come together for a good cause. This outreach has not only brought joy but has also strengthened our connection with the community,” she stated.

The palace secretary, Mr. Bitrus, expressed profound appreciation to NDI and OHCHR for their thoughtful intervention. Speaking on behalf of the District Head and the Kabusa community, he said, “This outreach is a great blessing to our elders. Many of them struggle to meet basic needs, and this gesture has lightened their burdens. We thank the Nery Developmental Initiative and the United Nations for choosing Kabusa for this impactful program. We look forward to more collaborations that will further develop our community.”

The event’s success was also bolstered by the presence of the Ambulance Academy, which ensured a safe and seamless event. Their support demonstrated NDI’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of beneficiaries and participants alike.

The outreach distributed food items such as rice, cooking oil, and seasonings, along with other household essentials, bringing much-needed relief to the elderly residents of Kabusa Village. The program’s planning and execution reflected NDI’s dedication to impactful interventions, highlighting its commitment to addressing the needs of underserved communities.

This year’s outreach stands as a testament to NDI’s mission of uplifting communities through meaningful partnerships and inclusive programs. By focusing on the elderly, the initiative underscores the importance of care and compassion for vulnerable populations, particularly during the festive season.

With this impactful intervention, NDI and OHCHR have not only brightened the lives of Kabusa’s elders but also inspired hope for a future where no community is left behind.
