Retract and apologize or face me in court — KT. Hammond goes after Captain Smart

Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa and Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Kobina Tahir Hammond, has denied making tribal comments in a video circulating on social media.

The video, shared by a broadcaster of Onua FM, Captain Smart, allegedly shows Hammond saying "Ayigbe man comot; Ashanti man for Ashanti Region," but Hammond has denied the allegation.

In a letter sent by his lawyers, Hammond is demanding a public retraction and apology from Captain Smart, stating that the video is a ploy to embarrass him.

The letter asserts that the video shows Hammond in an agitated state, surrounded by people outside his residence, with Captain Smart and a co-host making commentary that attributes bigoted and tribal statements to him.

Hammond's lawyers claim that the allegations have caused him significant distress and embarrassment, calling on Captain Smart to retract the video and apologize, or face legal action.

This is not the first time Hammond has been involved in a controversy over a video. Recently, a video claiming he refused to speak to the press after his electoral defeat was deemed misleading by the Ghana Fact-Checking Coalition.

Hon. Hammond lost his parliamentary seat to NDC's Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani in the just-ended 2024 general elections.
