More than half of the population of Ketu joins KDMHISC

More than half of the about 260,000 population of the Ketu District have now registered with the Ketu District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (KDMHIS).
Mr Raymond K Avinu, the KDMHIS Manager who disclosed this in an interview with the GNA, said "We hope to leap beyond the current 53 percent coverage towards 70 to 90 percent in the near future."
He said the motivational drive behind the progress was the initiation of a Destination Registration Programme (DRP), in which staff of the scheme was dispatched to the various communities in Ketu to register new members and instantly issue them with cards.

Mr Avinu said the Scheme took note of the fact that the number of visits a person had to make to the KDMHIS office at Denu from distant parts of the district before finally getting a registration card generated disinterest in the people, hence the adoption of the programme.

He said those being registered under the DRP still had to wait for an incubation period of a few weeks before they could access the facility and that the cards guaranteed that they had become members of the scheme.
Mr. Avinu said the bureaucracy, which characterized the registration and issuance of cards in the beginning was being addressed to encourage people to register with the scheme.

He said the scheme lacked adequate equipment such as computers and was also under staffed with only six personnel.

Mr. Avinu said vetting and prompt payment of claims from the 24 NHIS accredited health facilities in the district would have been difficult but for the adoption of an innovative vetting plan.
