Ghanaian actor and staunch New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter, Prince David Osei, has called on Ghanaians to denounce what he describes as unwarranted attacks on members of the NPP following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
In a social media post on Friday, December 13, Mr. Osei criticized the alleged acts of hostility, which he claims include physical violence, destruction of property, and threats against NPP members.
He expressed disappointment at the silence of both his party and some prominent Ghanaians on the matter.
“I am entreating all Ghanaians to condemn these baseless attacks on NPP members and forge unity among us all!” he stated emphatically, adding that such behavior threatens the peace and democracy of the nation.
Reflecting on the NPP’s decision to accept the election results in good faith, the actor questioned why members of the NDC would retaliate with violence and intimidation.
“We lost an election and congratulated our worthy opponent as part of sportsmanship. But must you watch and keep quiet whilst they attack your own people? Beat, vilify, and destroy properties belonging to NPP?” he quizzed.
The actor also shared personal experiences of being targeted, revealing, “I and colleagues have received death threats, cyberbullying, verbal attacks, and physical attacks.”
He described Ghana’s democratic governance as a system that should foster coexistence, not division.
“This is a democratic dispensation, and we should all respect it. The fact I didn’t agree with you during the campaign doesn’t mean we are enemies,” he said.
Prince David Osei urged the police and other stakeholders to take immediate steps to address the situation and ensure the safety of all citizens, warning that failure to act could lead to further divisions.
“We are one people. Let us condemn the attacks on NPP members, please. God bless Ghana,” he stressed.
