Ghanaian actor and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Prince David Osei, has called out the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly inciting hostility and violence against members of the NPP following the ruling party’s loss in the 2024 general elections.
In a social media post on Friday, December 13, Mr. Osei expressed concern over what he described as a wave of attacks on NPP supporters, including threats, cyberbullying, and property destruction.
He questioned the rationale behind such actions and urged the NDC to foster unity and not division.
“Why have you gone silent? Since when did we become cowards? We lost an election and congratulated our worthy opponent as part of sportsmanship,” he wrote. “Must you watch and keep quiet whilst they attack your own people? Beat, vilify, and destroy properties belonging to NPP?”
The actor revealed that he and some colleagues had been subjected to death threats and physical intimidation.
“I even sent a personal message to the IGP, but there was no response. Ghana, is this how you want us to live together?” he lamented.
Prince David Osei urged all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, to condemn such actions and promote peaceful coexistence in the aftermath of the elections.
“This is a democratic dispensation, and we should all respect it. The fact that I didn’t agree with you during the campaign doesn’t mean we are enemies,” he stated.
The NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat to the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama, who was declared the winner of the presidential race with 56.55% of the votes.
The aftermath has been marked by heightened vandalism allegedly by supporters of the NDC
