#Election2024: This defeat must humble us; NPP needs a reset just as NDC has been advocating —Felix Donkor

Felix Donkor, a communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, has called for a fundamental reset within the party following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking during a radio discussion in Kumasi, Donkor emphasized the need for the party to reassess its strategies and reconnect with the Ghanaian populace to regain power in the future.

“It’s sad that I have to say this, but my party, the NPP, needs a reset, just as the NDC has been advocating. This defeat must humble us and push us to do what is necessary to come back stronger,” Donkor remarked.

Donkor clarified that while the loss was significant, it was not the worst in the party’s history.

He compared it to the NPP’s 1992 performance when the party secured around 30% of the vote, contrasting it with the 41% achieved in 2024.

“I disagree with those who say this was our worst performance. We could have done better, but it is what it is,” he stated.

The party communicator stressed the importance of a collective reset, urging every member, from the grassroots to the leadership, to take responsibility and work towards meaningful reform.

“We all need to reset and do the right things. We must listen more attentively and respond better to the needs of the people. At some point, we thought we had done enough for Ghanaians, but that was not the case,” he added.

Donkor also called for greater transparency within the party and an end to internal issues that may have contributed to the electoral defeat.

“There has to be transparency at all levels, and we must stop the behind-the-scenes maneuvering,” he emphasized.

Regarding apologies directed at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the NPP’s underperformance in the Ashanti Region, Donkor advised caution, suggesting it was premature.

“We need to tread cautiously. It’s too soon to be apologizing to Dr. Bawumia, even though we all let him down. First, we must do some soul-searching and reset for the better before any of these actions can take place,” he concluded.
