Everything that needs to be changed as part of NPP’s rebuilding has to be done — Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general elections, has called for a comprehensive rebuilding of the party in the wake of its defeat in the polls.

The 2024 elections saw the NPP lose the presidency to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose candidate, John Dramani Mahama, secured 56.55% of the valid votes cast.

The NPP also suffered a significant reduction in parliamentary seats, winning only about 80 of the 276 constituencies.

Speaking to members of the NPP diaspora branch at his residence in Accra on Wednesday, December 11, Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of unity and change as the party works to regain its footing.

“Our core members stayed home because they had issues, so we have to look at unity. Unity is key for us, and that is very important,” Dr. Bawumia noted. “As it is now, we have to regroup and rebuild everything.”

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for decisive reforms.

“Whatever we need to change, we have to change. We have to regroup while staying united. We also have to stop the blame game; the blame game doesn’t bring unity,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia encouraged party members not to lose hope, expressing confidence in the NPP’s ability to make a comeback in the next election.

“I believe that we are going to beat the NDC in 2028. Everything that needs to be changed as part of our rebuilding has to be done. Don’t be downhearted; we have work to do. We need your support as we go forward in the next few years,” he said.
