Stephen Atubiga, a dismissed member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and vocal critic of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has lauded the composition of Mahama’s transitional team, describing it as a sign of “hope” for the country.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, December 12, Atubiga said, “The experienced calibre of people chosen by JDM as the transitional team shows seriousness hitting the ground running. This shows hope for the country.”

This praise comes after the President-elect announced his transition team in line with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

The team, led by Hon. Julius Debrah as co-chairperson, includes notable figures such as Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Dr. Valerie Sawyer, and Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi.

The NDC describes the group as experienced individuals drawn from finance, governance, and public administration sectors.

Meanwhile, the outgoing government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has also appointed its side of the transition team, co-chaired by Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

Key members include Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, and Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.

The incoming government has also nominated Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho to serve on the transitional advisory council, with the former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, representing the outgoing administration.

The two teams, inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, are tasked with ensuring a smooth transfer of power as mandated by the Transition Act.

They will work together to maintain stability and continuity as Ghana transitions from one administration to the next.
