The wife of independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, Mrs. Ruby Bediako, has raised concerns about the integrity of the 2024 electoral process following unexpected results at her polling station.

Reacting to reports that her husband, popularly known as Cheddar, received only one vote at the polling station where they both cast their ballots, Mrs. Bediako expressed confusion and disappointment. The outcome sparked public speculation about Cheddar's support within his household.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Mrs. Bediako voiced her frustration, saying, “It wasn’t just me. I think it was the whole family that went. I’m heartbroken because I think the system failed us because where is my vote? I don’t know where my vote went.”

She further added, “I think that the comment on social media it’s not just me. I think there’s a lot more people looking for [their] vote.”

Despite her disappointment, Mrs. Bediako maintained a positive outlook. “But we are all very happy,” she said. “Ghana won, and that’s the most important thing.”

Reflecting on the broader implications of the election, she acknowledged the results of the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections, which marked a historic return to power for former President John Mahama. The elections also saw a notable lack of enthusiasm from supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mrs. Bediako urged unity and celebration, stating, “Let’s all celebrate our President-elect.”

In the official results announced by Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa on Monday, December 9, Nana Kwame Bediako and his New Force party placed third in their electoral debut, trailing behind Mr. Mahama and the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

You said all your family members voted for your husband. Were you in the boot with your family members? Or did they snap their ballot papers to show you how they voted? By the way, what tells me that you yourself voted for your husband? Just keep quiet and let your able husband re-strategise in peace for next time.
