President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called on outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to maintain open lines of communication even after the presidential transition, emphasising the importance of collaboration in Ghana’s national interest.
Speaking at the Jubilee House during a meeting with President Akufo-Addo and members of the transition team, Mahama underscored the need for ongoing dialogue to strengthen Ghana’s democratic framework.
“I believe that even after the transition, it will be necessary for us to continue to keep a channel of communication so that Ghana’s democratic credentials are consolidated and we all work together in the national interest,” Mahama stated, addressing his political rival.
The President-elect also used the occasion to assure Ghanaians of the resilience and safety of the nation’s democracy. Following the meeting on Wednesday, December 11, he expressed confidence in Ghana’s democratic journey, reiterating the importance of bipartisan efforts.
“Despite all the anxieties people had ahead of the election and voting day, Ghana has done it again. We can be sure that our democracy is safe, and by working together across bipartisan lines, we can continue to deepen and consolidate it,” Mahama noted in a post on X.
The meeting at the Jubilee House marks a pivotal moment in Ghana’s peaceful transition process, reinforcing the country’s commitment to democratic principles and unity.
The President-elect is scheduled to be sworn into office on January 7, 2025.
