The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to intervene and stop alleged acts of violence and intimidation by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at collation centres.
“I would want to call on His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to stop his people, to speak to his party people. This is not democracy. This is not the democracy we’ve all worked hard for,” he said.
Speaking at a press conference held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday, December 11, Mr. Afenyo Markin accused NDC supporters of orchestrating attacks on NPP parliamentary candidates and officials.
He claimed the attacks were aimed at destroying evidence from the 2024 general elections.
“Why is the NDC so interested in destroying evidence? Why are they interested in capturing pink sheets to destroy them and set them ablaze?” he queried.
According to him, some NPP members have had their lives threatened because of accusations that they have electoral documents in their possession.
“The parliamentary candidate Ablekuma North had a sleepless night. All manner of persons were at her residence in search of pink sheets. She had to run for her safety with the timely intervention of the police,” he revealed.
He further accused the NDC leadership of encouraging such behaviour despite publicly condemning acts of violence in the past.
“The NDC leadership pretends that what their party foot soldiers are doing is on their blind side, but they are indeed encouraging it,” he alleged.
