Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for unity and rebuilding within the party, acknowledging that the NPP “gave the victory away” to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 presidential elections.

In a message shared on Tuesday, December 10, with constituents from Klottey Korle who paid him a courtesy call, Bawumia stressed the need for internal reconciliation.

He urged the party to stop the blame games and focus on healing.

“We gave the victory away to the NDC. Their numbers didn’t increase. This is the time to rebuild the party and stay together! Stop the blame games,” Bawumia said.

His comments come after the Electoral Commission’s declaration of the 2024 presidential election results on Monday, December 9.

The results showed former President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC securing a decisive win, amassing 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes, while Bawumia trailed with 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%.

The NPP’s loss in this election has prompted discussions within the party about what went wrong and how to move forward.

The election saw a low level of voter engagement, with a 60.9% voter turnout across 267 constituencies, though results from nine constituencies remain outstanding.
