The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has characterised the party’s triumph in the 2024 General Election as monumental.
His remarks came ahead of the victory address by President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, following the official announcement of results by the Electoral Commission.
Addressing jubilant party members, Mr. Asiedu Nketia passionately stated, “The great elephant has been slaughtered mercilessly,” a metaphor symbolising the NDC's decisive defeat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the polls.
The Electoral Commission confirmed a landslide victory for John Dramani Mahama on Monday, December 9, solidifying his return to the presidency and ending the NPP's tenure.
While acknowledging the significance of the win, the NDC Chairman called on party supporters to temper their celebrations and prepare for the task ahead.
He emphasised the need to fulfil campaign promises and meet the expectations of the Ghanaian people.
“Let’s be modest in our celebration. Ghanaians have given us this mandate, and so nobody should tell us the responsibility we have. We cannot disappoint them. And so, in the coming weeks, let’s cut our celebrations short and start planning on how to deliver for Ghanaians,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia urged.
