Ghanaian musician and Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, has suggested that Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, could be behind the recent attacks on her office and residence.

In a social media post on Tuesday, December 10, A Plus questioned the authenticity of the reported break-ins, raising concerns that they may be part of a ploy to tarnish the image of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and garner sympathy.

A Plus, who is also a vocal political commentator, wrote, “Ursula Owusu could very well be behind the alleged attacks on her office and residence! It wouldn’t be surprising if it were a ploy to tarnish the NDC’s image and gain sympathy.”

He further criticized Owusu-Ekuful’s leadership, stating, “If, after serving as Minister of Communications for eight years, her office and residence still lack CCTV cameras, it speaks volumes about the kind of associates Akufo-Addo worked with—more focused on theatrics than substance.” He added, “SHE IS CAPABLE! IT IS POSSIBLE!!”

The alleged attacks on Owusu-Ekuful’s properties took place on Monday, December 9, 2024, around 1:17 PM. Unidentified intruders broke into her office and residence, causing significant damage and stealing valuable items, including cash, a branded Nissan Hardbody vehicle, televisions, mobile phones, and three motorbikes.

The attackers also vandalized security equipment such as CCTV cameras, barbed wire, and the main door of the office.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, though authorities have not ruled out a potential link to the ongoing unrest surrounding the 2024 general elections.

Similar incidents of election-related violence were reported in Damongo, where agitated youth set fire to the Electoral Commission’s office over delays in result declarations.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of 89 individuals in connection with election-related offenses, including 40 suspects arrested for vandalism, looting, and destruction of property.

The police have assured the public that judicial proceedings will proceed swiftly and have vowed to enhance security measures to restore order.

Owusu-Ekuful, who has served as the Minister of Communications in the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration, lost her parliamentary seat in the 2024 election to Rev. Kweku Addo of the NDC, who secured 31,866 votes, surpassing Owusu-Ekuful’s 26,575 votes.
