President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated John Dramani Mahama, the incoming sixth president of Ghana, following his decisive victory in the 2024 presidential election.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 9, 2024, signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Office of the President, it was revealed that President Akufo-Addo called President-elect Mahama to offer his congratulations after the official results were declared by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa.

"President Akufo-Addo expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth and seamless transfer of power on January 7, 2025, and looks forward to collaborating with the President-elect and his team to achieve this goal," the statement said.

The statement further commended the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian people for a successful election, which reflected the strength of Ghana's democracy. President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the dedication and participation of all stakeholders, ensuring the credibility and peacefulness of the democratic process.

He also called on all Ghanaians to unite in the spirit of cooperation, to strengthen democracy and uphold the rule of law.

In a gesture of collaboration, President Akufo-Addo invited the President-elect to a meeting on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Jubilee House to begin the transition process. He reiterated his commitment to good governance and a peaceful handover, aiming to further enhance Ghana's reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

"May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong," the statement concluded.
