Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has reassured citizens of a brighter future under his leadership following his resounding victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Speaking during his victory address on Monday, December 9, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader acknowledged the challenges ahead but promised a determined effort to improve the lives of all Ghanaians.
“Our best days are ahead of us. The results of the election show that the NDC, with me as Leader, has just chalked one of the most emphatic victories in the fourth republic. I’m deeply honoured,” Mahama stated.
He extended heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their overwhelming support and emphasised the need for collective effort in resetting and rebuilding the nation.
In a call for unity and optimism, Mahama urged the nation not to succumb to pessimism but to work together to realise the Ghanaian dream.
“We are a proud people and have every right to be. I would like to thank you, the good people of Ghana, for this opportunity. I know most of you are frustrated, but please don’t give in to pessimism. Let’s focus on resetting and rebuilding our nation,” he said.
Mahama’s victory was confirmed by the Electoral Commission on Monday, which declared him the winner with 6,328,397 votes, amounting to 56.55% of the total valid votes cast.
The President-elect is set to be sworn into office on January 7, 2025, marking a new chapter in Ghana’s political journey.
