The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has declared the 2024 presidential election free, fair, and credible, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the electoral process.
Addressing the nation on Monday, December 9, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa announced the election results, which saw former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing victory with 56.55% of valid votes cast.
According to the EC Chairperson, the elections met the highest standards of credibility, ensuring that the will of the people prevailed.
“We have conducted elections that are credible, fair, transparent, and peaceful—elections that have ensured that every vote counts,” she stated.
Madam Mensa highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the commission to enhance public trust in the process, including the reprinting of ballot papers for two regions and waiving the fees for online voter verification.
“We take pride in the fact that the voters’ choice, as expressed at the polls, is sacrosanct,” she added.
The EC’s transparent approach, including live-streaming of Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings, was credited with diffusing tensions and restoring public confidence.
“So transparent are our processes that any interested political party, media house, or citizen could collate with near precision the results of the election,” Madam Mensa emphasized.
She expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their cooperation, particularly the media, security agencies, and election observers, and dedicated the success to the Ghanaian people and the Almighty God.
The EC Chairperson reaffirmed the commission’s nonpartisan role, stating, “Our mandate is not to pick anyone, a president or a member of parliament, but rather to conduct credible and transparent elections.”
With a voter turnout of 60.9% across 267 constituencies, the EC assured the public that results from the nine outstanding constituencies would not alter the outcome.

Nevertheless, from her conduct of the 2024 elections, it seem...
